Celtics rookie s first summer league performance not meet expectations
In a previous NBA Las Vegas summer league game, the Boston Celtics defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 92-78, achieving their first victory in the summer league.
Although the Celtics won a victory, the performance of the starting shooting guard Baylor Scheierman was very bad. Sherman played 27 minutes and 52 seconds in the game, made 2 of 14 shots, 1 of 8 from outside the three-point line, and 3 of 3 free throws, only scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and had 1 turnover and 4 fouls, with a plus-minus value of +5. Sherman got a lot of mobile phones on the offensive end, but his scoring ability was seriously insufficient. His performance on the offensive end was very plain. He seemed to have no sufficient scoring ability. He had certain passing ability and organizational ability, but this could not change the huge trouble he caused to the team in scoring. On the other hand, Sherman's performance on the defensive end is not a particularly outstanding level, and he is not a very reliable defender. Sherman's performance on the field is obviously not satisfactory.
Sheerman was born in September 2000. He is 24 years old, 198cm tall and weighs 92kg. He is an outside all-rounder from Creton University selected by the Celtics in the 30th pick in the first round in the NBA Draft last year. In the NBA regular season last season, Sherman played 31 games in 82 games, averaging 12.4 minutes per game, averaging 3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.1 blocks, as well as 0.4 turnovers and 0.7 fouls, shooting percentage of 35.5%, three-point shooting percentage of 31.7%, and free throw shooting percentage of 75%. In the playoffs, Sherman made a total of 4 appearances, averaging 5.6 minutes, averaging 2 points and 1 rebound, 0.2 turnovers and 0.5 fouls, shooting percentage of 30% and three-point shooting percentage of 40%. In the NBA Development League last season, he played 25 times for the Celtics, averaging 34.3 minutes per game, averaging 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 2.2 turnovers and 1.9 fouls. He shot 41.9%, three-point shooting percentage 37.9%, and free throw shooting percentage 82.8%.
Sheerman should be a versatile player with both offense and defense. He should have assumed a lot of responsibilities in the summer league level and became the core figure of the team. As a result, he played such a disaster-level performance in the first game of the Summer League, which is indeed very disappointing. I don’t know if Sherman can adjust his condition in time in the next game, whether he can seize the opportunity to show his due level and improve his competitiveness.
