Funny, Cousins talks about Rondo s campaign for Knicks coach, saying he is several light years ahead of Lakers Redick
If JJ Redick can coach the Lakers without any coaching experience, Rajon Rondo can also coach the Knicks.
The New York Knicks unexpectedly fired head coach Tom Thibodeau earlier this week, and the team is working on a head coach search in New York. Thibodeau led the team to the playoffs for four of the five years he played with the Knicks, and this season they reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Thibodeau seems to be leading the team in the right direction, but that's not good enough. Now, the Knicks need a new head coach and Rajon Rondo is considered a potential candidate.
Rajon Rondo has no coaching experience, but his starting lineup with the Knicks has caused some heated discussion. Last offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers hired JJ Redick as the new head coach, and the team eventually finished third in the Western Conference this year. Boogie Cousins believes that if Redick is competent, then Rondo can do it too.
"Absolutely, I think he's the best person for the job," Boogie Cousins said on the Run It Back Show. If we praise JJ Redick, that's not a derogatory one. I think JJ is a very good coach, but if we praise JJ for his high IQ and understanding of the game, Rondo is several light years higher than him. So I think any coaching position, Rondo's name should appear on the candidate list. He is a winner, he knows the game and is also a good coach, and that's what it was like when he was a player, so it's hard to imagine what he would have been like if he was a full-time coach.
Cousins compares him to JJ Redick, which makes sense. If Redick's career performance is enough to get him as the NBA head coach, so is Rajon Rondo.
Given Rondo's experience with the Boston Celtics, his coaching of the Knicks would be a remarkable game. Rondo played in the NBA for 16 years, from 2006 to 2014 for the Celtics. After that, he spent eight years in the league and played for eight different teams. The chances of the Knicks hiring a coach with no coaching experience seem unlikely, but that doesn't mean Rajon Rondo is not competent for the job. Players with no coaching experience gained more opportunities in a variety of different sports, as JJ Reddick's first season with the Lakers proved that this could be a successful attempt.
