M.A.: Before trading Mark Williams, the Lakers tried to get Okongu
05, May 24, According to ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin, the Los Angeles Lakers tried to get Atlanta Hawks center Oneca Okonggu before the Mark Williams deal with the Charlotte Hornets. The Hawks eventually left Okonggu, who has replaced Clint Capela as the starting center. The Lakers had already obtained Williams from the Hornets, but the deal was forced to be cancelled because the latter failed the Los Angeles medical examination.
After trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers urgently need to strengthen the inside. General Manager Robert Pelinka told local reporters at the end of the season that he will be fully seeking to introduce a center this summer.
