NBA insiders explain potential problems with the Kuminga Warriors

Basketball

According to F/W contributor Sidante Gupta, US sports media. Kumingga's trading legend has always been a key point for the Golden State Warriors to focus on this offseason. While the Chicago Bulls are seen as a potential landing point for the 22-year-old forward, NBA insider Zach Lowe refuted any of that in a recent episode of “The Zach Lowe Show.” "I don't think Vucevic is one thing to go to Golden State. I don't think it's one thing, I'm not sure it's really been one thing, at least on the current contract," he said.

A trade rumor tied the Warriors to the Bulls, which proposed to send Kumingga to Chicago in exchange for Bulls' big man Nikola Vucevic. While this has gained a lot of attention on social media platforms and the Warriors fan base, such a deal has not been achieved. Instead, the Golden State Warriors can only negotiate on Kumingga’s contract extension, while also discussing whether they intend to part ways with him.

The 22-year-old said he hopes to leave the Bay Area and pursue his dream of becoming an All-Star. Although he is an extraordinary genius, it is obvious that his fit with the Warriors is clumsy. Zachlow further explained why this caused problems for both parties, adding: "I think we're all guilty of making things too complicated... If he just defended better, I think he would play more. I think the Warriors coach would let him grow...but the defense has been not enough."

Zachlow's comments painted an interesting situation in Golden State. The Warriors’ basketball style, their athletic offense, has always been based on selfless and ball-free movement. Players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are also effective without the ball, and they benefit the most from it. While outside shooting ability is usually a prerequisite for Warriors players, the team already has enough players to break the rules. From Sean Livingston to Jimmy Butler, Dunleavy has always featured players with very different styles of play.

Zachlow's expectations for Cuminga regard the striker as a player of this type. Unfortunately, as Cole trusts more in Butler, mainly because of his experience, the 22-year-old is just in the wrong environment to accept the role, and Cole also mentions that. Last season, Kumingga averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from three-pointers. Although his outside shooting has more to be desired, the young forward showed his natural ability to create scoring opportunities through pure athleticism.

Of course, Kumingga can thrive within the Warriors' framework, but that requires him to stick to the role he set for him. This may be simply inconsistent when considering his ambitions. As for the current situation, the Warriors have shown no signs of trading him in the offseason. This hesitation also hinders other transactions. With Al Horford's signing being further delayed, it may see the veteran's interest shift to other teams, and the Golden State may consider reevaluating its approach to dealing with the situation.
