The men s basketball national team once again blocked Lin Wei and Sun Minghui. Is coach Guo Shiqiang really wrong?

A total of 20 players participated in the training team, mainly preparing for the men's basketball Asian Cup in August. However, there are still no Sun Minghui and Lin Wei on the list of this training team. Even though Sun Minghui was the first team and best defensive player in the CBA last season, he helped the team win the championship; Lin Wei was the scoring champion of domestic players in the CBA last season, and the only domestic player who averaged 20+ points per game in the regular season. The two of them failed to be selected into the national team training team. Is it because of the biased coach Guo Shiqiang, or are they really not suitable for the national team?

Although he was selected as the best player in the country and still the best defensive player, he really couldn't make any shots like this. If he was allowed to join the national team, he would only waste more shooting opportunities.

Then there is Lin Wei. Last season was Lin Wei's third season in the CBA, and he averaged 20+ points per game in the regular season for two consecutive years. This shows that he has certain scoring ability, but his scoring is more based on a large number of shooting rights, his scoring efficiency and shooting percentage are not high, and he has no enthusiasm on the defensive end. This is also the main reason why coach Guo Shiqiang and the men's basketball national team are unwilling to ask for him.

Last season, Lin Wei played 34 regular season games with Nanjing Tongxi, averaged 21.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.6 minutes per game, with a shooting percentage of 41.3% and a three-point shooting percentage of 34.9%. It seems that it is not bad when you only look at the scoring data and shooting percentage, but when you look at the advanced data, you will understand that your offensive efficiency is 110.2, ranking 156th; your defensive efficiency is 118.1, ranking 182nd in the league; your effective shooting percentage is 49.2%, ranking 113th; your frontcourt rebounding rate is 1.7%, ranking 218th. Let’s put it this way, there are 20 teams in the CBA, and each team has only about 8-10 people to enter the team’s regular rotation. Lin Wei’s major advanced data are the ones at the bottom of these people.

Lin Wei is a typical player who only scores but no defense. It is okay to have unlimited shooting rights in weak teams in CBA. Scores are also accumulated by a large amount of shooting rights. Such players are completely inadequate when they enter the national team. Just like Durant when he first entered the NBA, the Thunder did not care about his record and got the scoring champion several times, but he could not fight tough battles. The national team guided by Guo Shiqiang pays attention to the integrity of the team and the players' defensive enthusiasm. These cannot be reflected in Lin Wei, so the national team of men's basketball team will keep him out again and again. The same is true for Sun Minghui. He has almost unlimited shooting rights in the Guangsha team. Hu Jinqiu, Wu Xiao and Carlton can compete for rebounds in the inside, so he plays more casually. The tacit understanding formed by long-term cooperation will also make him have a high number of assists. However, at the national team level, his pass and assist ability was weakened, and his offensive shooting rate was also very low. Although he still has good defensive ability, it is not very consistent with the national team's philosophy, so he cannot give him more opportunities.

Sun Minghui has also been selected for the national team many times before and has partnered with Guo Ailun, Zhao Jiwei, Zhao Rui and others. The effect is not very good, so he gradually faded out of the national team. Lin Wei's performance in Adidas European Training Camp is also unsatisfactory, and it is almost impossible to hit the NBA. At the same time, he is unwilling to change his playing style, so it is difficult for the men's basketball national team to accept him again. If Lin Wei loses the NBA this year, then goes to the Australian NBL League for a few years, then returns to the CBA and then tries to join the national team, it may be a good choice.
