On June 3, ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks wrote an article about issues related to Nuggets star Jokic's future contract. This summer, Jokic can sign a new contract with the Nuggets, with a total amount of US$212 million in three years. This contract will take effect in two years, which means that Jokic will play in the Nuggets until the age of 35, and then can sign another three-year maximum salary contract with the Nuggets. It is worth mentioning that the average annual salary of Jokic's new contract is exactly twice that of Rockets All-Star center Shin Kyung. The Nuggets held a press conference at the end of the season, during which the team owner Josh Kroenke talked about the team. Kroenke said, I can say very clearly that the culture of this team does not need to be reset, our culture still exists, and we only need to peel off some things and make a small adjustment. I think we are ready to move on. Such rhetoric makes the outside world believe that the Nuggets will not pay luxury taxes in the next few seasons. Next season, the total salary of four starters, including Jokic, Gordon, Porter and Murray, will reach US$182 million, close to the luxury tax line of US$187 million.

This summer, Westbrook has the option of a player and is likely to not execute next year's contract to test the free agent market. If the Nuggets cannot provide a full middle class contract or above, Westbrook will most likely choose to leave the team. In fact, Westbrook played a key role in both the regular season and the playoffs. The Nuggets may also send forward Michael Porter away this summer, who averaged only 9.3 points per game in the playoffs, shooting 39.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-pointers.
