American News: The Lakers can trade the expiration contract for the new season, but only one round left to trade

Before the start of training camp for the new season, ESPN reporters Bobby Marks and Jeremy Woo explained in detail the trading resources the Lakers can use in the new season.

"The Lakers are at the other extreme of the league. Even though LeBron James and Luca Doncic earn nearly $100 million in total salary this season, the Lakers still have over $60 million in expiration contracts to be traded. But their available first-round picks are seriously insufficient: they owe the Jazz a first-round pick protected by the top four picks in 2027 (given in Westbrook's deal in 2023), and the Mavericks a 2029 unprotected first-round pick (given in Doncic's deal this year).

"The only draft picks allowed to trade in the Lakers are the first round picks in 2031 or 2032. In addition, they can also give away first round swap rights in 2026, 2028, 2030, 2031 and 2032."

It is worth mentioning that James executed the new season's $52.6 million player option in the offseason and will become a full free agent next summer, but he has non-trade clauses, so the Lakers cannot use his expiration contract for trading.
