In the latest episode of The Hoop Collective Podcast, ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst revealed that the Timberwolves had "seriously" considered introducing Durant in February. ESPN's Tim MacMahon added that the deal was not concluded at the time because it required an "extremely complex series" to allow the Timberwolves and Suns to complete the deal.

Randall's decision could be a turning point for the Timberwolves. He performed well throughout the season and most of the playoffs, but was underperformed in Games 2 and 4 of the Western Conference Finals (scoring only 11 points from 3 of 18 shots). If the Timberwolves think Randle can’t be the second-leader in the championship roster, that could offer them the opportunity to pursue Durant.

Edwards made no secret that Durant was his idol growing up. The two have worked together and won gold medals in the 2024 Olympics. Any deal involving Durant will be complicated by financial problems. He will earn a $54.7 million salary in the 2025-26 season, the final year of his current contract and is eligible for a two-year, $122 million extension this summer.

For the Timberwolves, who have been close to the Finals for the past two years, such risks may be worth it, as he can greatly improve the team's offensive ability.

Durant played 62 games for the Suns this season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, and his shooting percentage was as high as 52.7%.
