NBA trade rumors: Durant may join the Timberwolves, joining Edwards to form the strongest offensive duo

Basketball

The Minnesota Timberwolves, where Anthony Edwards is located, missed the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year. This season they are unable to beat a team like the Oklahoma City Thunder that dominates defensively in the Western Conference Finals. Although Wolf Forest showed hope in its return to the Western Conference Finals, many thought it wasn't enough.

Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to make a major change to their roster. They have All-Stars like Edwards and Julius Randle and League-Best Defensive Player like Rudy Gobert. However, they believe they need more star players to face the strong teams in the West. A player has been associated with them recently, and that is Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant.

On the last trade deadline, the Timberwolves tried to chase Durant. However, the two franchises cannot reach an agreement. Now, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a chance to pursue the 6-foot-11 All-Star forward in the offseason. After the Suns failed to advance to the playoffs, speculation began to be made on KD's future.

According to Hoops Wire's Sam Amiko, the Timberwolves appear to be ready to trade the two-time champion. His addition will give the Timberwolves and Edwards another strong scoring point.

"The Timberwolves need another 'alpha' beside Edwards to win everything, which is why a source told Hoops Wire that the Timberwolves are expected to seek trades with Durant again in the offseason," Amiko said according to the NBACentral report.

As we all know, how much Edwards admired the former Thunder superstar. They represented Team USA to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics and established close ties.

Amiko added that Durant is interested in playing for the Timberwolves. The Suns star has one year left on his four-year, $194 million contract. This way, the Timberwolves can combine him with Anthony Edwards to form a dynamic offensive duo.

The 15-time All-Star player played 62 games last season and maintained his efficient scoring ability. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

A former NBA player believes Anthony Edwards will benefit from playing with Durant

Former NBA player Jay Williams talked about the potential combination of the current star with Durant after Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves were eliminated. The deal is only a proposal, but there is no official news yet that Minnesota will reach an agreement with the Suns.

However, Williams points out that sometimes, Edwards doesn't have the best IQ on the court. Now, having Durant by his side can help the three-time All-Star grow faster.

"Having him and Durant partnered was probably one of the best things to do... because it would greatly improve his basketball IQ," Williams said.

Durant is skilled, but he is also one of the smartest offensive players in the NBA. Durant can serve as a mentor to young Anthony Edwards and help him compete for the championship.
