The boss of the 30 teams divided $12 billion! Another impact of the Lakers selling team is exposed: Raising the NBA s military price code

On June 20, ESPN continued to discuss the Lakers' team selling. Several sources said this incident will not slow down progress in the NBA's military expansion. In the past few months, there have been concerns that the Celtics' high-priced sales will affect the NBA's expansion. The Celtics ended up selling at a record $6.1 billion — a figure that was particularly surprising given the Celtics don't own their own home court TD Garden Arena, the source said. It is 50% higher than the $4 billion record set by Ishbiya when he acquired the Suns in 2023.

Now, another team that cannot control its home court, the Lakers, is about to be sold at a valuation of 65% higher than the Celtics record. The deal could be finalized as early as next month at a board meeting in Las Vegas. At the same press conference earlier this month, Alliance President Xiao Hua not only said expansion will be an issue for next month’s meeting, but would likely recommend a committee to formally study the issue – the next formal step towards potential expansion.

Xiao Hua said: "People are not short of interest. I have basically said to people from different cities, 'We're just not involved in that process now.' I want to be fair to everyone. So I don't want to just meet with some people and not with others. So if we agree, we'll now go into a more formal stage of exploration." The Celtics and Lakers' sale price means that the cost of expansion could reach about $6 billion per team - meaning that if two expansion teams were born (probably Seattle and Las Vegas), the total expansion fee was $12 billion, and the current 30 team owners would receive a check of about $400 million each.
