Westbrook s NBA career is in a hurry?

Basketball

According to NBA reporter Jake Fischer, former MVP Russell Westbrook's prospects in the free agent market are not optimistic. Currently, the Sacramento Kings may be the only NBA team that is still interested in him.

"If Westbrook wants to stay in the NBA, the Kings may be his last choice," Fischer said in the report.

Review of performance last season

In the 2024-25 season, Westbrook played for the Denver Nuggets, playing 75 regular season games, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 44.9%. However, in the playoffs, his efficiency declined significantly - in 13 games, he averaged only 11.7 points per game, his shooting percentage dropped to 39.1%, and his three-point shooting percentage was only 31.7%.

This summer, Westbrook chose to jump out of his contract and become a free agent, but has not reached an agreement with any team so far.

Analysis: Why is Westbrook's market cold?

Although Westbrook still maintains good organizational skills and defensive enthusiasm, his shooting stability and playoff efficiency have become the main reasons for most teams' hesitation. In today's leagues that emphasize space and efficiency, tactical positioning such as Westbrook who needs to hold the ball but has limited threats from the outside are becoming increasingly awkward.

The Kings still lack experienced point guard substitutes in their current roster, which may be the main reason for their interest in Westbrook. But if even the Kings did not extend an olive branch in the end, the NBA career of this nine-time All-Star may really face severe challenges.
