Football

Arsenal is active again in the transfer market, bringing Christian Norgard from Brentford. The 31-year-old Danish midfielder brought in with an initial transfer fee of £10 million plus a bonus of £500,000, according to the BBC.

Although this is not a compelling name, this transfer is considered very clever. Norgard is not only an experienced player, but also a reliable person who rarely misses due to injuries.

He has made 120 appearances as a starter in the Premier League since Brentford's upgrade. In three of four seasons, he made at least 30 appearances as a starter.

These statistics depict the stability and consistency of the Norgaard match. His appearances can relieve the burden on Declan Ritchie and Martin Odegard during the intensive schedule.

Norgard's actual contribution on the court

Norgard usually serves as a defensive midfielder in various formations at Brentford. He always plays this role in the formations of 3-5-2, 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1.

With the departure of Jorginho and Thomas Pat, Norgaard became the ideal substitute for Martin Subimedi. He can provide depth and stability in the midfield.

Although Brentford did not dominate the ball, Norgard was able to perform easily in possession. In games with a possession rate of more than 57%, he recorded his pass accuracy with 87.8% and 15 improvements.

On the defensive end, his contribution is even more significant. He has become the player with the most interceptions (201) and steals (844) in the Premier League since the 2021/2022 season.

Physical power and important role in set pieces

Arsenal is known for being one of the most dangerous teams in set pieces. Norgard will significantly enhance this.

His air battle rate reached 61.9% last season. Among the midfielders in the Premier League, only three defenders from Arsenal and Brentford are stronger than him.

In dead ball situations, he often becomes the first player to touch the ball - both offense and defense. In total, he created his first contact from corners and indirect free kicks.

His goal record also reflects his efficiency in set pieces. Four of the five goals last season came from set pieces, including a goal against Arsenal in 2021.

is not a star, but a smart solution

Norgard is also known as a leader on the field. He has been captaining Brentford for the past two seasons, adding more character and maturity to Arsenal.

Norgard's transfer coincides with Thomas Frank's transfer to Tottenham, the coach has coached Norgard since Brondby and the Denmark U21 national team. Now, the two play for two major opponents in north London.

Although more often appearing as a defensive midfielder, Frank has said that Norgard can serve as the No. 8 or No. 10 midfielder. This provides Arteta with more flexibility.

Not all transfers must be eye-catching to make an impact. Norgard is an example of how calm decisions can bring the most rewards to Arsenal.
