Official: Essugo underwent thigh surgery, Bonanot was selected for Chelsea Champions League

Football

September 16 Official news: As Essugo underwent thigh surgery, Bonanot has replaced him for Chelsea's Champions League roster.

Essugo was injured in the national team game and is expected to miss at least 12 weeks. This injury will leave him missing most of the Champions League stages. According to UEFA's newly revised rules, outfield players who miss at least 60 days due to "long-term" injuries can be replaced on the Champions League roster.

Bonanot is the undrafter of the 23-man Champions League stage submitted by Chelsea in early September, but now he has been added to the roster before the team's first Champions League match against Bayern.

Bonanot joined Chelsea on loan from Brighton on transfer deadline. He was close to joining Leeds United before, but Chelsea eventually intervened and reached an agreement. Bonanot made his debut in Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Brentford, but was replaced at halftime.

Essugo joined Chelsea from Portugal Sports for a transfer fee of 18.5 million pounds in June this year and has made three appearances in the Club World Cup, but he has not yet made his debut in the Premier League before his thigh injury during international matches in September.

UEFA rules stipulate that Essugo can replace Bonanot to Chelsea's Champions League roster after he recovers from injury, but it cannot be operated before the 60-day window expires.
