Neville: Sunderland will stop Arsenal, predicting a 1-1 draw

Football

November 6 Gary Neville believes Sunderland will give Premier League leaders Arsenal a headache this weekend and may even destroy their chances of setting a new record.

Arsenal led by Arteta will travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday night to face in-form Sunderland, aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League standings to nine points. Arsenal have won 10 consecutive games in all competitions and have conceded only 3 goals all season. They defeated Slavia Prague 3-0 in the Champions League in midweek and kept clean sheets in 8 consecutive games. If they keep another clean sheet against Sunderland, they will break the club record set in 1903.

However, Neville does not expect Arsenal to break this century-old record this weekend, and even believes that the league leaders will be tied by Sunderland.

Before the start of the season, Sunderland was widely expected to be relegated, but the Black Cats have only lost two of their first ten Premier League games and are currently ranked fourth and are about to face Arsenal. Sunderland drew 1-1 with Everton in their last Premier League match, after beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

When discussing Arsenal's match against Sunderland, former England women's football star Jill Scott said: "I think Sunderland have a chance... The atmosphere at the Stadium of Light is electric. Do you think they can get points?"

Neville responded: "Sunderland is indeed a difficult opponent, isn't it? I predict the score is 1-1. I can't say why I think so - I am optimistic about Arsenal, but Sunderland is at home. Facing Arsenal legend Ian Wright on the show, Neville added: "Wright, what do you think? Your team is performing very well..."

Wright said: "We did play well. I predict Arsenal to win 2-0."

Arsenal fans will soon pay attention to Manchester City's game against Liverpool. Manchester City and Liverpool, currently ranked second and third respectively, hope to continue to put pressure on the leader Arsenal.

Talking about this important Premier League matchup, Wright added: "Liverpool draws with Manchester City, which will be a good result for Arsenal, but I think Manchester City will beat Liverpool. I saw Liverpool's defensive performance this season and how Haaland easily broke through the defense."

At the same time, Neville and Scholes said they did not have a strong feeling about this, and they are optimistic that Liverpool will continue to rebound and narrowly beat Manchester City.

Liverpool's title defense once looked in jeopardy as they lost four league games in a row last month, but Slott's team appear to have turned the tables. The Reds ended a four-game losing streak against Aston Villa in the Premier League and beat Real Madrid in the Champions League.
