Paris Saint-Germain wins the championship, South Korea adds another Champions League player

Football

After Park Ji-sung, Lee Gang-in became the second Korean player to win the Champions League title. In the early morning of June 1, in the Champions League final of Paris Saint-Germain swept Inter Milan 5-0, although South Korean player Lee Gangren did not make a debut, he still won a valuable Champions League championship medal with his qualifications to make 11 appearances throughout the season. For the 23-year-old midfielder, this is the most successful season in his career so far.

Before this, the only Asian player to win the Champions League title was Korean legend Park Ji-sung. He won the championship with Manchester United in the 2007/08 season, but unfortunately he did not enter the final list against Chelsea, nor did he appear in the game. Since then, Park Ji-sung has participated in the Champions League finals twice in 2009 and 2011, but neither helped the team win the championship and lost to Barcelona both times.

The last time an Asian player appeared in the Champions League final was the 2019 Tottenham Hotspur match against Liverpool. Son Heung-min played the whole game for Tottenham, but the team lost 0-2.

In addition to the Champions League championship, Li Gangren also won three honors with the team this season: Ligue 1, French Cup and French Super Cup, witnessing the most glorious season in Paris Saint-Germain's history.

However, according to multiple media reports, Li Gangren may bid farewell to Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Because it is not in the future plan of new coach Louis Enrique, the club has issued a transfer fee of 40 million to 50 million euros for him. Currently, Serie A team Naples has shown strong interest and is interested in introducing this Korean hope star.
