Hupu August 31, TheAthleticUK Villa's latest report with team reporter Jacob Tanswell, Aston Villa is advancing negotiations to sign former Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof.

Emery has always wanted to bring in some defensive players during the transfer window, and the 30-year-old is one of the goals.

TheAthletic reported in July that Villa had issued a offer to the highly acclaimed Toulouse centre-back Jady Canwater, but the 19-year-old later signed to Crystal Palace.

Lindelof left Old Trafford after his contract with Christian Erikson and Joni Evans expired, ending his eight-year career at the club. The Swedish international made 284 appearances during this period and won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and won the FA Cup a year later.

The 30-year-old made 25 appearances for Manchester United in his last season, but the team ranked last in the Premier League (15th) and was eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Cup final and missed the Champions League.

This summer, Villa has brought in a young central defender Yasin Ozkan from Kasinpassa. Ozkan signed a pre-signing agreement in February this year and joined Emery's team on July 1. The club also signed a pre-signing agreement with 19-year-old centre-back Modu Koba Cise this summer, who will play for Linz on loan until the 2025-26 season before joining Emery's team.
