TA: Leeds United reached an agreement on Longstaff and Newcastle in principle, with a transfer fee of about £12 million

Football

July 16th According to The Athletic, Leeds United and Newcastle reached a principled agreement on Longstaff's transfer. The report stated that Leeds United has reached a principled agreement with Newcastle United on Longstaff’s transfer. The Athletic reported on July 7 that Leeds United submitted a offer to Newcastle worth £10 million plus £2 million additional terms, the third offer they gave to Longstaff.

It is reported that the offer is close to the price limit Leeds United is willing to pay for Longstaff. If the 27-year-old midfielder's transfer is not completed, they have other signing targets.

Longstaff has negotiated personal terms with Leeds United, and his contract at Newcastle is one year left. The two sides had negotiated a new contract last winter, but he has hardly ever made a appearance for Newcastle since.

However, as a youth training player, Longstaff hopes his team will be compensated for transfer fees instead of losing him for free next summer.

Newcastle had activated the one-year renewal option in Longstaff’s contract last season, extending his contract until June 2026. Longstaff has played 171 Premier League games in the past seven years, and he plays mainly in the middle of the midfield at Newcastle, and serves as both defensive and offensive responsibilities.
