5 years! Spanish media: Barcelona settles the salary of 19 first-team players including Messi, Busquets, Dembele
June 28th According to Crónica Global, local media in Catalonia, Barcelona is about to settle the salary deposits of 19 players including Messi. These players signed an agreement to postpone wage payment with the team during the epidemic.
Since the agreement on deferred wage payment has been reached, Barcelona has fulfilled its commitment on time. Before June 30 and December 31 in the past five years, the club will pay the corresponding amount of wages to players who have signed the agreement. June 30, 2025 is the deadline for paying all wages.
Barcelona will complete the last salary payment of 16 million euros. In the past five years, first-team players at that time have received delayed wages every six months, while echelon players and coaching staff members have once a year.
Previously, Barcelona has completed 8 payments for deferred wages, with the proportion of deferred wages being 42.9% of the fixed wage and all bonuses, totaling 120 million euros.
There were 19 first-team players who reached this agreement, including Messi, Busquets, Alba, Dembele, Griezmann, Coutinho, etc. The then first-team coach Koeman also signed the agreement. Among them, Messi's total salary due to delayed payment is as high as 47.6 million euros, and he will also receive the last 5.95 million euros final salary.
The second highest salary for deferred payment is Umtiti. The French central defender received a total of 9.9 million euros in deferred payment, with the last one being 1.24 million euros.
Telstegen, De Jong, Pique and Lenglet are different from the above players. They all signed new contracts in October 2020, and distributed their salaries to more years through renewal.
After paying these wages, Barcelona eliminated some of its debts and had more salary space. After obtaining a positive financial rating, Barcelona successfully refinanced its debt of 424 million euros, allowing some of the debts that originally expired in 2028 to be repaid until 2033. At the same time, the club completed the construction of 475 VIP seats, which will require audit confirmation to bring 100 million euros in revenue. If the audit is passed, La Liga will continue to allow Barcelona to apply the 1:1 fiscal fair competition rules.
The 19 first-team players who signed salary signing salary extensions in 2020: Messi, Umtiti, Busquets, Griezmann, Alba, Coutinho, Dembele, Pianic, Roberto, Neto, Dest, Philpo, Aleinia, Matthews Fernandez, Pedri, Trincon, Fati, Araujo and Phuket.
