Kelleher: Leaving Liverpool just wants to be a goal; experts who don t play goalkeepers don t talk nonsense

Hupu, August 15th, editor-in-chief of Daily Telegraph, Jason Burt, exclusive interview with Brentford goalkeeper Kellech.

Kelleher heard such praise last season and last season, saying that he was the first and second goal in the Premier League.

"Of course you hear this compliment, and listen, I think that to some extent it's obviously a good compliment. I played a lot of games last season and last season, so I think that for me, the natural progression - obviously what I've been pursuing for years - is to be the No. 1 goalkeeper.

It's a good compliment, but now I want to be No. 1 goalkeeper and prove to people that I'm also a very good No. 1 goalkeeper."

Why choose Brentford?

"I almost left last summer and then I wanted to be No. 1 goalkeeper all season, and obviously the next, and perhaps the best time to transfer is this summer. So, I just focused on last season and tried to do a good job.

Obviously, as the season is coming to an end, you will start thinking about next season and next season. It's obvious that Brentford is interested in me, and I think once they express their interest, I'll be very passionate and things are going very fast. I'll think of this all season.

I want to be No. 1 goalkeeper and I want to do that in this season." What's a bit frustrating about Kelleher is how the experts on TV, especially those who have never played in this position, evaluate and analyze goalkeepers.

"Those who lack education don't understand this position at all. I think they may only know some basic knowledge and copy it, but obviously there are many different variables for any conceding goal. That's why goalkeepers are in this position, that position. They don't understand that.

It would be great if they could hire a few more front goalkeepers (as commentators). Joe Hart's commentary is great, he can help players understand this position better. I know Rob Green has some experience, so maybe you can hire a few more."

Kellech played 10 times in the Premier League last season and finally won the championship, which put a perfect end to his career at Liverpool.

"There is no more perfect ending than this," he said. Prior to the transfer, Kelleher also spoke with his former Liverpool teammate, Fabio Carvalho, who now plays for Brentford, and his friend and Irish international Nathan Collins.

"I still ask some questions about Brentford even before someone is interested in me, purely out of interest. I've always been impressed by their performance here, so this experience is more like reiterating my initial thoughts.

It's a very good club and I think they're on the upward track. Looking at their past history of developing players, you'll find that they're really strong, and to me, that's one of the most important things."

How disturbing is Frank's departure?

"It's not that disturbing for me, and any coach leaving will make things a mess, but the most important thing about Brentford is how the whole club works.

It doesn't depend on one person. I knew he could leave when I signed. So it was in my mind. But I know it's okay. It's all about the big picture."

A month later, when United signed Brian Mbemo.

"No one panic, Brian played here for many years and performed very well. He deserved this time to Manchester United, so everyone here is happy for him.

This happens to every football club. The players keep improving, and there are many good players in the team, all working hard to get a position. From what I have seen in training and games, we have a lot of talented players, and I think we are in a good shape at the moment."
