Kubasi: The forwards should be the first line of defense. Only with unity can we win the championship

Football

Hupu News on October 9th Cubasi came to La Masia from Girona’s youth team in 2018 and has now been with Barcelona for seven years. Recently, the young central defender of the Spanish national team accepted an interview with "AS". In the interview, he talked about his current life situation and also mentioned the head coach Flick. Below is the first half of Kubasi’s interview.

Someone told me that you brought a book to register for the national team because you wanted to learn business management?

Well, football takes up a lot of time. But yes, I want to enrich myself and am taking a course on business management. Taking up three afternoons a week, it's easier than college classes, which require more time. This way I have time to recover and study.

Why choose business management? Those courses don't sit well with centre-backs, for whom maybe medicine would be more appropriate, like being able to repair the damage you've done... Just kidding, I can't remember a single malicious kick from you

Well, sometimes I might go too far unintentionally, but kicking is not my style, I try to kick the ball cleanly, but football is a contact sport and sometimes there are collisions.

In fact, almost any central defender today could become an excellent midfielder on any team in the 1990s, right?

Everyone says this, because now the central defender must have good ball-playing ability, but this does help the team a lot, and the team that plays pass control. At Barcelona, we all grew up with the concept of playing the ball properly from the back, and we were strictly required to do this from an early age.

Barcelona suffered two consecutive defeats, which has not happened for a long time, and conceded four goals in Sevilla in the last round. In the 2015 league game against Celta Vigo, Barcelona also lost 1-4...

I was still very young at the time, but I remember the defeat in Valledos. Losing is always painful, especially losing by a big score. But we must pay attention to the mistakes made in these types of games, learn from them and avoid repeating them so that we can prevent them from happening again.

It is said that Flick asked forwards to participate in pressing. This problem sounds familiar. Real Madrid has also had this problem, and Xavi Alonso is trying to correct it. It seems that forwards' unwillingness to sacrifice for the team is a common problem for wealthy clubs, but it is rare in small teams.

It can be said that, but if it is a great team, the first line of defense should be the forward line. Because a great team needs to be united and united. This is the key to winning the championship. In the team we all have to press, forwards, midfielders and defenders, we did that at Barcelona last season and it worked well, so you have to keep it up.

Is Flick very insistent on this? As a German, is he more harsh than tolerant?

He has both. He is a coach who is close to the players and works hard to help them. But when the pressure needs to be applied, he also winds up the pressure and he knows how to push the players.

Let's go back to the less well-known Cubasi and relax. I think you are already living independently, but semi-independently: you live in Barcelona with your sister, and your parents stay back home in Girona. How are you doing?

Fortunately, I am learning to cook some simple meals. If I need to wash the dishes, I will wash them. Little by little, but I'm doing my own chores.

Your sister will take care of you, right?

She is older than me, but we get along well. I have been away from home for several years because I used to live in La Masia. Now I live with my sister, but my parents visit us often.

How is the traffic situation in Barcelona?

The traffic in Barcelona is so bad that I only drive when I have to, like to go to the dentist. Otherwise, I won’t drive and it would be more peaceful to stay at home.

I ask this because I remember that you and Garvey learned to drive from the same coach, and then Yamal also went to the same driving school. I guess that coach was not a Real Madrid fan...

I don’t think so (laughs).
