Enzo: I will accompany Chelsea to reach the top again and hope to win the Premier League and Champions League in the future

Hupu News on November 17 Recently, Chelsea midfielder Enzo accepted an exclusive interview with the Saudi media Koora. In the interview, he reviewed his growth trajectory and many other topics and situations.

About the situation of officially joining Chelsea on the January 2023 transfer window deadline

That month was extremely chaotic. The transfer matter seems to be a sure thing at one moment, and seems to be ruined at the other moment, which is inconsistent. I was very young and had been through a lot, but that month was really crazy.

Fortunately, in the end, the transfer was successfully completed. During those weeks, I tried to keep a calm mind: if it worked out, I would be happy to accept it; if it didn't work out, I could still stay at Benfica. But looking back now, those days were really painful.

Fortunately, everything came true in the end. Now I'm at Chelsea and I feel very good despite the changes the club has gone through. I get along very well with my teammates and coaching staff, and I am very happy every day.

When you first joined Chelsea, you were the only Argentine player in the team. Now Bonanotte and Ganaccio are also here.

It feels pretty good. I know roughly which Argentinian players have played here before.

Does this put you under pressure?

I don’t have that kind of “pressure of shouldering heavy responsibilities”. I try to keep a calm mind, enjoy every moment, do my daily work seriously, and do my best to represent Chelsea well. Now that Ganaccio and Bonanotte are here, to be honest, it feels very good. We often drink yerba mate and chat together. I missed this atmosphere very much before, but now that there are more South American players in the team, daily communication is much easier.

When I first came here, there were only two or three people on the team who could speak Spanish, and I could only speak Spanish at the time. It was indeed a difficult time. But slowly, I integrated into the team and learned some English. Later, South American players such as Caicedo, Bonanote, Ganancho, Andre Santos, and Pedro joined one after another. Pedro now also starts to speak Spanish. There are more Spanish speakers in the team, and communication is much easier.

About the tacit understanding with Caicedo

When I heard that Chelsea were interested in signing him, I was naturally the first person to call him. On the one hand, it’s because we are both South Americans, and on the other hand, the club also wants me to communicate with him and encourage him to join. Of course I did. I have been looking forward to the arrival of a good player like him. He will be of great help to the team. Everyone is aware of his strength and his humble manner. He is usually a diligent, studious and helpful young man.

We got along very well from the beginning. As time went by, this tacit understanding became deeper and deeper, and we often got together off the court. To be honest, we have a very good relationship, and we naturally have that kind of natural understanding on the court.

Where does my winning mentality come from?

I was born like this, maybe because I have four brothers, maybe because I grew up playing on the River Plate team. I can’t explain clearly, but life has shaped me into what I am now. But there has always been an instinctive impulse in my heart, which is the desire to win. I have hated losing since I was a child and always want to win no matter what I do. I think this may be an innate trait.

You and the team have won many honors, especially the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup titles. What do these championships mean to you?

is extremely significant. These titles are very important for me personally and for the club, especially the Club World Cup. Chelsea is a wealthy club with a glorious history, but for me personally, these championships are even more precious. Because in the first two years when I joined the club, things were not easy. There were many changes, coaches changed frequently, and players came in and out frequently. If I remember correctly, from the time I joined until now, only three of my teammates at that time are still on the team.

What is your current goal? At Chelsea, you still lack the Premier League and Champions League. Will we see you in the Champions League final this year?

I hope so. My dream has always been clear - to win the Champions League or the Premier League with the club and to reach the top again with the club. We all know what these titles mean to the club. We will strive to represent Chelsea in every game and always strive towards the highest goals.

Now you are playing at the No. 10 or No. 8 position under Maresca and you are starting to score goals. In the past, you played more in the 6th position. Which position do you prefer?

For me, position is not the most important thing. I am satisfied if I can play. But after Caicedo came, my position did move further forward, because he prefers to play the No. 6 position. Later, Maresca arranged for me to play in this position, and I felt very comfortable with it. I'm always trying to improve myself, and although it's a completely new role, I've been playing it for a season and a half and I'm totally used to it now. I like to help the team with goals and assists. As long as it is beneficial to the team, I am willing to play in any position.

When you were injured last year, what did you learn from that experience?

The injury was not particularly serious, but it took a month and a half to recover. That time taught me a lot off the court and especially brought me closer to my family and the people I love. You are usually so busy with training and games that you may not realize that you only have the next game and the next training session in your mind, and sometimes you neglect to contact your family. Being injured gave me the opportunity to reconnect with myself, my children, my wife, and my family and friends on a deeper emotional level. I think this was an important takeaway from that time.
