The New India Express reported that Messi and the Argentine national team originally planned to visit Kerala, India in October for a friendly match, but the event was unfortunately cancelled due to less than 1,000 crore funds. Last year, Kerala Sports Minister V Abdulahiman announced that Messi will hold two local exhibition matches in 2025, one of which is to be staged in Cochin City. The sponsorship of the event was taken over by an organization under the Kerala Gold and Silver Merchant Association and plans to raise the required funds through the Oloppo app. However, due to the failure to reach the fundraising target within the specified time, the cooperation agreement was reluctantly terminated. It is reported that the Argentine national team's appearance fee accounts for as much as 70% of this fund, and the team is currently actively looking for new opportunities for cooperation.

Argentine journalist Gaston Edur revealed that Argentina will hold two games in China this year and one event in Qatar and Angola respectively. Although it has not been officially announced, the team's international match day schedule from October to November has been initially finalized. Previously, HSBC India announced a cooperation with the Argentine national team and confirmed its trip to India, but the bank has not yet issued any statement on the matter. It is worth mentioning that Messi last visited India with the national team in 2011, when they played a friendly match with Venezuela at the Kolkata Salt Lake Stadium.
